Happiest of Happies to Us!

Happy happy happies! We're all kinds of happy around here today. We're celebrating our 7-year anniversary today and we're also celebrating my Little Missy's second birthday.

Yep, she was born on our 5-year anniversary. I've come to the conclusion that we won't properly celebrate an anniversary again until she's grown. ;)

Don't get me wrong... we tried this year. We really did! Some of you may remember, I posted on facebook about going on a "dayte" Friday afternoon. I promised to tell you all about it and to clue you in on what a dayte actually is. Well, before I get into the gory details, let me tell you what a dayte is.

You know those parents who don't live near any family and it's really difficult for them to get a babysitter so they rarely ever get time away from their kids?  Well, those parents go on daytes.  Daytes happen during the week in the middle of the day and usually require one or both of the parents to play hooky from work.  See, then these parents can leave the kids at daycare and if they're lucky, they can get in both lunch and a movie! Oh, yes, that my friend, is a dayte.  I was all kinds of excited about going on my on dayte with my guy Friday.  Little did I know what was about to happen. =/

Of course, like most girls, I had high expectations, when I was driving home from work early Friday afternoon, and thought that perhaps my husband would be eagerly awaiting my arrival and be ready to whisk me away on a romantic dayte. ;) What I saw when I walked in the door actually exceeded my expectations. My sweet husband, who had just completed a four-hour ironman training workout earlier that morning, was in the process of moving all of the living room furniture so that he could shampoo the carpet.  That's pretty nice of him, right?  I was planning to have some girls over Saturday morning, so I had asked him to shampoo the carpet before they arrived.  I couldn't find him right away, but I followed the sound of him muttering and banging on something to find a very cranky husband in the garage.  Apparently, the vacuum cleaner blew up on him, and he was trying to fix it. It wasn't going so well and he was not in the best of moods. Needless to say, we got into a bit of tiff (ha, I love when my name falls so perfectly into a story).  We decided to make the best of our afternoon and went on our dayte anyways.

Fast forward about an hour. We're at the theatre, tickets in hand, and realize that we have a flat tire. The Hubs decided to change it before the movie started and got busy.  About ten minutes in, it started sprinkling. No big deal, though. A little bit of moisture never hurt anyone, right?  Suddenly, the sky fell out and the rain came down in sheets. My poor husband was literally soaked to the bone. (Being the good little blogger that I am, I really wanted to get a picture, but I didn't want to aggravate him any further! lol) He finished up, we returned the tickets and went back home to get dry.

So, that was our dayte, but that isn't how a dayte should typically go! =) That was just another day in our life. We've learned that things like this happen. We just roll with the punches and make the best of what life throws at us. Isn't that what marriage is all about anyways?

How was your weekend? And how do you like to celebrate the milestones in your life? =)

Happy Anniversary! We just celebrated 7 years also. With kids, sometimes it is so hard to spend time alone, but it sounds like you managed with everything!!

Awww, virtual hugs and thanks for sharing your happiness, 'cause some hubbies, er, like maybe mine, would have left photo-happy bloggers at the theater...lol. Your post made me grin - some days just don't go the way we'd like no matter how good our intentions are.

Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to your little one!
Sorry about your dayte! Hopefully you can really celebrate later! ;) Maybe. Our anniversary is Jan 3rd and I don't think we've been able to really celebrate it in three or four years! Eh. We have each other and celebrate our lives together - the good and the bad - every day.

Aw, I'm sorry your day didn't go as planned, but I'm glad you guys seemed to make the best of it! And your little miss is just so ridiculously cute...I hope she had a very, very happy birthday!

(Brigid came one week shy of our fifth anniversary. If she hadn't been in such a hurry, we may have been in the same boat!)
