Runaway Train

Get it?  Because I'm training for a run.  I know, I know... it's not the most clever title in the world, but it was all that I could come up with!

I'm really at the very beginning stages of my half-marathon training.  I ran four miles for the first time in my life on Wednesday and it was amazing!! Okay, I lie. The run itself was not amazing. I thought I was going to die, throw up, pass out... all of the above.

Dress & Vest: Thrifted
Shoes & Belt: Target

Then, about an hour or so later when I recovered, I felt amazing! I felt thin and strong and like I could conquer the world.

Necklace & Watch: Target
Bracelet & Earrings: Premier Designs Jewelry

Starting August 6th, I'll be using Hal Higdon's half marathon training plan. My husband used Hal Higdon's plan to train for his first marathon, so I feel like I'm in good company. =)  For the first time since I had the kids, I'm getting in shape and starting to feel like the strong, fit 25-year old I was when I got married! I really hope that when school starts and my schedule changes, I'm still able to find time to train.

If you're a runner, do you follow any particular plan to train for an event?  If you're not a runner, what do you like to do for exercise?

I'm linking up today with Casual Friday, Fashion Friday and High Five for Friday.

I love the geometric print on your dress, Tiffany! When we were supposed to run the mile in HS, I was one of those people that walked it instead, haha. So I don't have any running advice :) Have a great weekend!

Hi,
I found your blog through Feathers & Freckles comments and I think we should be friends! When I did two half marathons a few summers ago, I found a bunch of training calendars online, found commonalities, and made my own. I pretty faithfully stuck to it and I was ready, which was HUGE because until then, I wasn't really a runner! I totally get that whole going to pass out and die feeling. Good for you that you ran four miles! That's way more than most people can!

Cannot believe what a fabulous dress that is that is thrifted. I REALLY need to push away from my computer and hit up some of our Goodwill and thrift stores in town. Shame on me for spending so much on department store items.

You look super duper cute!

Love that dress! I have been using Jenny Hadfield's training plans here http://www.jennyhadfield.com/ for the 10K I am doing tomorrow (yikes!). I don't follow to the letter, but they work well for the general structure of the long runs, etc. Good luck!

You know, I never felt better than when I was running after Brigid was born. And then, I just...stopped. And now all I can think about is how I want to start doing it again, which of course, I can't, because I'm too out of shape and pregnancy is not the ideal time to start a training plan. Boo!

But I am still so happy for you, of course :) And four miles? You totally qualify as a rockstar in my book!

Love, love, love the print on that dress. So cute!

I'm not a runner. I like to dance (Dance Central for Kinect!), stretch, walk. Admittedly, I'm kind of lazy.

Good luck with your training!

good for you for running 4 miles! i love running, but haven't in a while. i find that breating twice in and breathing twice out really helps me with running. also, i do a lot of intervals... like run for five min and then walk for five min... alternate like that... hope it helps.

your outfit looks darling on you!!

what a cute dress! i love that you thrifted it. vests are so versatile and perfect for wearing over dresses and tanks! i run with baby when it's just him and i, then the other days i have to usually do a workout video since it's tough to find ways to exercise with three kids!
