Musings About Beach Hair

I have never EVER been able to come up with something cute to do with my short hair on a beach day. Seriously, when I wake up in the morning, my hair sticks out in like a million directions and if I don't wash it, blow dry it and straighten it, it'll stay that way all day. So, on beach days, if (and that's a BIG if) I feel up to it, I take a shower before going to the beach just so that I can fix my hair. I've always thought that was totally pointless because as soon as I'm out there, I'm all sweaty and sandy and covered in tanning oil or (since having kids) splotches of sunscreen.  Therefore, on the typical beach day, I'd slap on a baseball cap or a headband and call it a day.

While in Destin, I wanted to do something cute. I mean, here we were getting away, just the two of us. And I knew we'd take a break from laying out at some point to go grab a bite to eat and I'd be seen by people who weren't also all sweaty and sandy.  So, I tried The Braid. You know, that look where you braid your bangs into your hair so that you have a little braid framing your face. I went for it. I was always scared that my face was too round/chubby/not pretty enough for this look. But I'm all about stepping out of my comfort zone these days. =)

Here it is before getting wet.

And here it is after getting wet.

And here it is after drying off, but before washing and fixing the hair.
Shirt: Target
Tank: Express
Shorts: New from the Gap Outlet (One of my favorite things about Destin!)
Sandals: Borrowed from my Sis
Purse: Dooney & Bourke Outlet

I actually really loved and have a feeling I'll be sporting that braid every weekend this summer!

As a sidenote, I don't know if you noticed . . . my bright white legs went from bright white to bright red and white striped. Ha! For some odd reason, I thought that only my face needed sunscreen. The rest of me was in lots of pain for a few days.

I think your summer beach hair looks super cute! Like Drew Barrymore circa 1995:) And sunscreen is our friend; why do we neglect it so? I'm not sure if that mystery will ever be solved;) xx

Ooooh, I love the braid! It looks so cute! I have longer, straight, thin hair, and beach hair is most definitely not my friend, either. My dumb little sister has this awesome hair that dries in these awesome waves when she gets it wet and let's it air dry, and then she always looks cute in beach pictures, while I'm stuck wearing a hat. Or sporting some really stringy mess on top of my head. Totally not fair :)

I LOVE your braid! I've tried it before, but it didn't turn out well. Let's just say that my husband asked if it was permanent (with a horrified expression), so I have abandoned the notion. But I'm so happy for you that you found such a cute beach alternative!!

Oh, and I MUST get a pair of madras shorts!

All right, missy! First, I'm going to need you to stop thinking that those things about your face...absolutely not the case! You are working that braid, and that first pic is especially gorgeous.
Secondly. Umm...next time you find some cute shorts like that at the Gap Outlet, you should send a shout out to your blogger peeps and let us wire some funds to you so that you can pick us up a pair, too! ;)

Before I start with the cute braid, I must say that I love the previous post. You and your husband make a very cute couple and you look great! As for the beach hair, you should try a headscarf when you need to go to a restaurant straight from the beach. It's an easy way to control the wild maine! I used to have the same problem.
