Having Fun in The Rain

I hate rainy days. The humidity, the clouds, the overall gloominess... it just gets me down. So, when this particularly rainy day arrived, I threw on this fun red blazer that I recently got from Kohls.

Blazer: Kohls
Shirt: Thrifted
Skirt & Belt: Target
Boots: Shoedazzle

I couldn't wait to snap a few pictures of it to share with all of you, but the rain simply wouldn't let up.  After I picked up my Little Guy from school, the rain gave us a bit of a reprieve. I asked him if he wanted to help me out and we made our way very quickly to my little garden where he helped me with the photo shoot. It was drizzling a bit and as we snapped away, the rain drops began to get bigger and bigger, which caused my Little Guy and I to laugh and laugh.

I guess the lesson is that you can still enjoy the rainy days even if you don't love them.

Scandalous

Have you ever brought your two-year old to the office with you? It does not make for a very productive day, let me tell ya!

A very nasty bacterial infection is going around the daycare and my Little Miss started showing some symptoms Saturday. She still has a few symptoms and we're waiting for the tests to come back from the doctor.  In the meantime, she can't go to daycare, but she's not really acting sick, so she's joining me at the office.

Lucky me. ;)

Shirt: Thrifted
Shorts: maurices
Shoes: Calvin Klein Jeans, Zulily

While bringing your child to work might not be ideal, it certainly isn't scandalous. But you know what is scandalous? These shorts!

Necklace & Watch: Target
Bracelet: Premier Designs Jewelry

I've worn these shorts before with flat sandals and they didn't seem so ridiculously short. Then I put them on with heels and I felt like I was showing miles and miles of leg! (Ha! As if my legs go on for miles. lol) If I had not been going on a date with the Hubs, I probably wouldn't have worn them.  But they didn't seem to scream, "Look at me! I want attention!" when I was with him. Because we're such little lovebirds that it's obvious I'm taken. ;)

What do you like to wear on dates with your guy?

Elephants & Battle Wounds

You all know how much I love my chambray shirt, right?  I mean, I only wear it like once or twice a week!

Chambray Shirt: Gap, Thrifted
Maxi Skirt: NY&Co
Sandals: Boutique in New Orleans

Well, my poor chambray shirt has suffered a battle wound. I only hope that I can repair it and bring it back to life!

I was walking out of the door at work to go to lunch when I snagged my shirt on the door and ripped off the button! Not only did I rip off the button, but I also managed to snag a decent hole where the button should go. Since I am 100% inept with a needle and thread, I think I'll take it to a tailor and see if he/she can repair it for me.

Elephant Bracelet: Pondicherry (Purchase here) Won in a giveaway at Pink Chai Style
Coil Bracelet: Mimi Boutique Purchased with gift card won in a giveaway at BonBon Rose Girls

Isn't this elephant bracelet gorgeous?!? It's so unique. I just love it! When I showed it to my Little Guy, he gave it a cursory glance and went back to watching Curious George. Then he did a bit of a double take and said, "Oooh, momma! I like that!" =)

Necklace: April M Jewelry Won in Contest on their facebook page
Ring: I think I might have "borrowed" it from my sister and never gave it back. ;)
Pink Band: Road ID

I've worn my Road ID a number of times on the blog and you may have noticed it. I can't wait to tell you more about it tomorrow! And you'll definitely want to check back in, because there just might be something in it for you! =)

While looking through these photos, I notice that my hair is in desperate need of a cut and color! I really can't go much longer than 5 or 6 weeks before it start to look a little shoddy. How often do you cut and/or color your hair?

Ketchup

Because I'm catching up! Get it?  Cheesy? Yes, yes, it is. I know, but that's what you get with me. Sometimes cheesy, sometimes corny, but always 100% me.  =)

I'm going to share three different outfits with you that I wore over the past few weeks.  One was worn the first day of my week of student-teaching.  The second was worn to the office and the third was worn another day when I was teaching.

Chambray Shirt: Thrifted
Dress, Belt, Sandals & Bracelets: Target

Funny story about that dress?  During my lunch break, the strap snapped and I had to teach the rest of the day with my dress falling lower and lower and eventually dragging the ground. =)  Thank goodness I was wearing a belt to help keep it up!

Shirt: NY&Co
Tank: Halftee
Skirt: Target
Shoes: 6pm.com

No funny story to go with this one. =) Just my pretty little shirt that feels like pajama and my nude studded heels. Check it out... I wear them a lot!

Dress: NY&Co
Bracelets: Target

Ha, see?  Here are the nude studded heels again. And who knew I liked this sleeveless chambray top so much??  I wonder why the first owner decided to get rid of it... It really is the perfect piece for layering over a dress!

Of these three, I think I like Outfits 2 and 3 best. If I owned a bright red skinny belt, I think Outfit 2 would be just about perfect!

Do you tend to have favorite pieces in your closet that you wear over and over again?  If you've been following me lately, then you know my current faves are my chambray shirts, my turquoise jeans and my nude studded heels. =)

I'm back, baby!

Well, I'm back... for the moment, anyways. I literally have 22 messages waiting for me on my voicemail and a massive stack of files in my inbox, so I'll be brief. =)

Chambray Shirt: Gap, Thrifted ($4)
Turquoise Jeans: NY&Co ($30)
Purple Shoes: Shoedazzle ($20)

I had such fun teaching last week!  I can't wait to start interviewing, land a job and spend time with those cute kids every single day.  It's like my own little dream job. =)

All accessories: Target

What's your dream job?  If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?

Having the Time of My Life

First of all, I'm sorry I've been MIA the past few days! I appreciate you all continuing to stop by and show your support of my little blog. =)

I've been student-teaching this week and I've been swamped! I've got to say, I absolutely love getting to spend so much time with the kids each week. Since I began my student-teaching experience, I've had to fit in my time with them on my lunch breaks.

Shirt & Dress: Thrifted
Shoes, Belt, Necklace & Watch: Target
Bracelets: Bealls
This is the first week that I've used vacation at my "real job" and gotten to spend every minute of the day at the school!

I'm literally having a blast! At the same time, I'm mentally exhausted at the end of the day.  How do you blogging teachers do it?? Pray tell!

I simply haven't had time in the mornings to photograph my outfits, much less enough brain cells left over at the end of the day to think of anything clever to write!  I promise that I'll be around towards the end of the week to see what you all are up to!

So, how do you manage? Whether you're a teacher or a mom or an employee somewhere, when do you fit in photographing your outfits and blogging and visiting other blogs and all that jazz?

While you're here, don't forget to enter my eShakti Giveaway!

Me & My Chambray Shirt

I have something to confess, y'all. My Chambray Shirt and I kind of having a little something going on. I don't know if it's true love that will last forever, or only a little crush, but I kind of want to wear it all. The. Time.

Here are the ways I've worn it in the past few weeks.

It's just such a versatile piece.  I would go so far as to say that your wardrobe isn't complete without one!

Chambray Shirt: Gap, Thrifted ($4)
Skirt: LOFT, Thrifted ($4)
Shoes: Shoedazzle ($20)
Belt ($4) & Bracelet ($4): Target

Okay, I admit it. I think it just may be true love. =)

Do y'all remember a week or so ago when I asked you to pretty please go vote for me in the April M Jewelry Style Contest? (Huh, I just realized I was wearing a very similar outfit that day.) Well, I won and received the beautiful Carolina Garcia Copper Necklace in the mail!!

Necklace: won in contest April M Jewelry

It arrived earlier this week after an incredibly long day at the office.

The cute packaging and sweet note immediately brightened up my day!

The necklace itself is a beautiful piece of jewelry.  It has a nice weight to it and feels like a piece that will last forever! Even with two kids pawing at me all the time. ;)  Thank you, April M Jewelry, for such a beautiful necklace!!

Friday's Flavor of the Week - All the Colors of the Rainbow

If you can't tell from the title, I have a really random post for you full of many unrelated colors! =) I thrifted these lime green Ann Taylor pants a while back and have worn them a few times, but this is their first time on the blog.

Chambray Shirt: Gap, Thrifted ($4)
Pants: Ann Taylor, Thrifted ($4)
Tank: Express ($15)
Shoes: rsvp, 6pm.com ($6.95)

After seeing them photographed, I realized that they are not as flattering as I thought they were! Does that ever happen to you?  You really like an item of clothing until you see it in pictures... These are a little baggy and after wearing them for a while, they get really loose through the thighs, which simply isn't very flattering on my already larger-than-I'd-like thighs!

This necklace, however, I love! ;)

A few readers have mentioned that they liked my nails in the past few posts...  I had painted them two fun colors to carry me through last weekend. They were certainly not shades that I would have picked for an interview, but they were definitely fun!

SpaRitual in Knowledge is Power
NYC in Times Square Tangerine

I got the SpaRitual polish from apothica.com and I really like the shade. It was a pretty matte polish that dried quickly and lasted as long as can be expected when you type for a living and cook and take care of kids every evening! ;)

Close-Up of the Nails =)

Speaking of interviews (which I very briefly mentioned a second ago), what color polish would you wear?  I'm thinking a nude shade or just a clear coat.  I will (fingers crossed) be interviewing for teaching positions within the next month or so!

Chambray, a Pencil Skirt & Scarlet Samples Jewelry

First of all, Happy Easter!! What a terrible blogger I am that I didn't even acknowledge such a special day yesterday . . . but I really was busy with life.  Church in the morning, where they put on an incredibly awesome Easter Cantata, representing the resurrection from the perspective of the Woman at the Well; then we spent the afternoon at a friend's house, where, of course, the kids hunted eggs!  By the time I got home, I was too exhausted to even attempt to blog. =)  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!

Now onto the frivilous things that this little blog is all about. =)  Last week, I saw this post and knew that I wanted to recreate it.  I have a chambray skirt and a black pencil skirt, but as I was getting dressed, my eyes kept going to my mom's fuschia pencil skirt that I still haven't returned.  I decided to switch out the black skirt for the bright one and this was the result!

Chambray Shirt: Gap, Thrifted ($4)
Fuschia Skirt: NY&Co, Borrowed from my Mom ($0)
Belt: Target ($6)
Shoes: rsvp, 6pm.com ($6.95)

You guys!! I recently won a giveaway at Flats to Flip Flops for Scarlet Samples jewelry! I had never even heard of the company before and really didn't know what to expect, but I love the necklace, bracelet and earrings set that I received!

Necklace, bracelet (that you can't see, it's layered between the two pearl bracelets) and earrings: Scarlet Samples
Rings: Target

The necklace has a very solid feel to it. Its very sturdy and feels like it will survive my toddler's grabby hands.  And I love the golden color!

Since I thrifted this chambray shirt, I've worn it a number of times... But I think this may be my favorite outfit with it yet!

Have you joined the chambray shirt trend?  What is your favorite way to wear it?

Run, baby, run!

Are you a runner? For about the past year or so, I've dabbled in running. When your husband is an Ironman, it's hard to feel excited about having run a 5k in thirty three minutes. ;)  Despite that, I'm buckling down and getting serious, y'all!  I've committed myself to running a 1/2 marathon later this year and I have begun some training that will gradually get me from barely huffing and puffing out two miles to running 13.1 miles with ease.  Okay, maybe not with ease, but I should at least be able to finish! =)

Green skirt: Old Navy, thrifted ($4)
Mustard tank: Target ($10)
Chambray Shirt: Gap, thrifted ($4)
Sandals: A Boutique in New Orleans ($10)

You know what I notice about running?  It's so incredibly difficult to get up when my alarm goes off at 5:00 a.m.!! But if I can just make myself get out of bed, I never regret it.  I feel so accomplished after running first thing in the morning.

And as an added bonus, getting up so early allows me to have quality quiet time with my Bible, which is the best way to start my day! =)

So, do y'all have any tips for running a 1/2 marathon?

Confessions of a Thriftalholic

Okay, I have to admit something to you. I can't stay away from the thrift stores. I pass them every. single. day. on the way to work and I swear, they call to me like a baby calling for its mama. I had done really well for a long time, but it's like a disease! Once you go back, the pull is stronger than ever! lol

Last week, I went in just to browse for a few minutes and I was overwhelmed by bright spring colors everywhere! I left with a whole slew of goodies, including this bright colorblocked dress and chambray shirt!

Chambray shirt: Gap, Thrifted ($4)
Dress: Thrifted ($4)
Shoes: Target ($20)

I had literally been searching for one of these shirts at the thrift store for about a year now.  I felt like I hit the jackpot when I finally found it! =)  And I just love the cheery colors in this dress!
