I'm not an angel, really I'm not. It's just that the humidity fogged up the camera lens again and I didn't catch it in time to take additional shots.

Remember how I mentioned that I was spending a beach day with my bestie yesterday. It was divine! The day was perfectly beautiful. My bestie lives in Texas now and we only see each other once in a blue moon. Because we both work and have kids, it's really hard to find time to even catch up on the phone. 

I picked her up at 8:30 yesterday morning and didn't drop her back off at her aunt's house until almost 5:00. Do you want to know something crazy? I don't think there was a single moment of silence the entire time we were together. We picked up right where we left off and chatted about every little thing in our lives until I was forced to leave her because real life needed us to come back.

How to Dress for a Teaching Interview

I am by no means an expert, but I have been to three interviews in the past two days so I wanted to share what I've learned!

1.  Wear your power color, whatever it may be.  My power color is the color that I feel confident in and that I know looks good with my hair and complexion.  I have two of them actually: turquoise and pink. Figure out what yours is and wear it confidently!

2.  Keep your jewelry simple.  If you know me, you know I like to stack my bracelets and wear big ole blingin' rings and dangly earrings.  Well, I toned it down a bit for my interviews. ;) I wore a simple bracelet watch, one silver ring and small earrings.  When you're interviewing, you want your personality and abilities to shine.  You don't want your interviewers distracted by by the sparkly ring that keeps waving through the air. Or the clinking of bangle bracelets as they slide up and down your arm.

3.  Wear simple heels. I love a bright heel. And I love a high heel.  But for an interview, especially for a teaching interview, you should wear flats or simple heels.  You don't want the interviewers to think that you're too insensible to handle standing in a classroom all day!

4.  Pay attention to the details.  I rarely paint my nails these days, but I knew I wanted them painted for my interviews. So, I swiped on a pretty nude coat called Satin Doll by deborah lippman on Sunday night.  As I was pointing to my portfolio, the color helped to transform my nails from the haggard chipped nails of a mom to a classy lady. ;)  Also, those toes!! You really should be polished from head to toe for an interview. Ha, pun intended. Nobody likes to glance down and see big unpainted toes ruining a cute sandal! While I'm sure it wouldn't cost you the job, it could cause the interviewer to wonder if you forego the minor details in your personal appearance, would you forego minor details in your classroom as well?

5.  Last of all, have fun with your outfit! When I was choosing what I was going to wear, my main goal was to wear something that was totally me.  I wanted to portray my fun personality by wearing fun colors or patterns.  On day one, I wore my skinny belt knotted over my dress.  On day two, I didn't want to be too risky, but I did mix it up a bit by pairing colors in an unexpected way.  Those little things are the things that will allow the interviewers a glimpse into who you are and how you'll engage and entertain your students.

Now, we won't know if these tips actually work until next week when I (fingers crossed, please, pretty please, please, please!) get an offer. ;)

Yesterday morning, when I walked into the bedroom ready for work, my Little Guy said, "Oh, momma, you look like a princess!"

I'm feeling very catty in this new shirt I recently got from Oasap.  It's incredibly soft and fits like a glove and adds just the perfect amount of cattyness to an outfit. ;)  In fact, I've worn it twice in the past ten or so days.

I wore this look on a day when I was absolutely exhausted.  The Little Miss had been up most of the night and I could barely function. When putting the items together, I was hoping that the bright skirt and bold leopard print top would give me the push I needed to make it through the day.  And it must have worked, because I'm still here! ;)

Reader Request - Flowy White Skirt

A reader recently thrifted a Tommy Hilfiger flowy white skirt, new with tags, for only $3.99!! I've decided I'm taking my next vacation where ever that thrift store is because this girl scores every time! She asked for a little help styling it and I actually had a tough time with this skirt!  I just kept coming back to earth tones and finally decided there was a reason for that. This flowy maxi skirt has a natural hippie feel to it, so it's meant to be paired with earthy colors and textures.

If I'm being honest, my first look was stolen straight off of Amanda Vaughn on GCB.  Am I embarrassed that I just admitted to watching such a show? Yes, I am. I can promise you this... the girls at my church are nothing like those girls!  Anyways, back to the outfit.

I added a knee-length white skirt to the look because I just thrifted myself one and really think that the longer skirt can be easily switched for the shorter one. ;)  Also, you can choose to wear wedges for some height or stick with flat sandals.  Either pair will keep with the boho chic feel of the look. 

My second look sticks with the earthy tones, but adds some textures and colors.

Partying with the Girls . . . and the Post-Preggo Pooch!

A friend of mine recently reached out to me on facebook and asked for some help styling an outfit for a girls' night.  The challenge she was facing is one that every mom on the planet faces at some point in her life . . . how to hide the post-partum pooch! 

I put together two looks (or actually three, since I gave two options in tops with the miniskirt) that would work to mask the belly and still allow her to feel like the hot mama she is!

 

The first look is built around a mini skirt, tights and heels, because that is what my friend was planning to wear and requested a top to match.  This look is all about the pop of color.  It's a fairly simple look, but the mini and sky-high heels, along with the pop of color, will allow any mom to feel like her pre-preggo self and have a good time with her girlfriends!  My personal favorite is the teal and black blazer.

And just because I like to go above and beyond (on anything that I think is fun), I put together a second look, too. =)

The key when putting together a look to mask that pregnancy pooch is to go with flowy tops that have a lot of fabric, like the two tops in the first look.  That both have gathered fronts that just kind of fall over your stomach.  The blazer will help to give the look definition and cinch in the waist a bit. 

I love the edginess in the accessories in the second look!  The leather wrap bracelets and tough statement rings would probably help me in my sleep-deprived haze as a new mom to feel like my old self again. ;)

My Happy Color

My favorite color has been purple since I was a tot, but I think purple may have finally been replaced by new happy color . . . turquoise!

Turquoise makes me think of the bright blue sky and cyrstal clear waters at the beach, so it definitely brings to mind happy thoughts and memories.  It also goes with any color!  Red, pink, yellow, navy blue, brown, black, white . . . they all look pretty fabulous with turquoise!
