Summer Style: Bright Shorts & A Black Tank

One day last week, I kept it uber simple for a Norwex party by pairing my bright coral shorts with this little black tank.

Have you ever heard of Norwex? It's a company that sells these special cloths with silver woven throughout them that allows them to clean surfaces without any cleaning products. Something about silver is antibacterial so you swipe your counter and voila! It's clean. I'd have bought a cloth or two, but you know how it is. I'm a teacher and it's the end of summer . . . so yeah, I'm broke. Hit me up in September and maybe I'll a little to spare. ;)

Church Style: Floral Blazer

Who's going back to school already?  Pre-planning starts tomorrow! My room is about ready. I have a few things to print at Office Depot tomorrow, laminate and put on the walls... but then I can devote the rest of the week to planning. I'm so excited about coming into this year so much better prepared! I'm eager to meet my kids this year and get to know them.  Teaching must never get old because you get to start with a new group of kids every year!

I wore this little dress that I've worn quite a few times this summer with my new floral blazer to church this morning. You guys.  I'm so bored with this rambling. Seriously, how is it that I haven't even started teaching yet and my brain is already too dead to come up with anything worthwhile for you.  As my three-year old would say, "Too well." As in, Oh well. Too bad. You get what you get.

I love you, TJMaxx, I really do. But these wedges are a little bit hideous. I had no idea they were so clunky and unattractive until this very moment. Eesh.

Myyyy Fedora!

In my head, I'm kind of singing that to the tune of Myyyy Sharona. Only don't go google that song because I did and then was a little bit disturbed by the lyrics. =/

I styled the heck out of my fedora this weekend. I don't really have the perfect hat head, but I'm going for it. You know how you see girls with tiny little pixie faces wearing gorgeous floppy hats or cute little fedoras and they just look amazing? That's not me. But I'm okay with that. =)

Excuse the wrinkles... the photos were taken after 4 very long hours in the car!

Saturday night, we celebrated my husband's parents' 40th anniversary. Forty years is a long time, especially these days when it seems like couples young and old are getting divorces left and right. Nate's parents are such a great example of what a loving, godly couple should be. They have a strong marriage and have successfully raised three great children (one of them is really great and he's all mine!). We celebrated with them by going out to dinner at a cute little 50's style diner.

 photo IMG_4028_zps1a26bdcd.jpg

I decided to denim it up by wearing not only a pair of cut-off shorts, but also a denim shirt. Mixing denims is cool now, don't ya know?

We had a great time in Alabama! My Little Guy caught his first fish, we met a few Egyptian Arabian show horses, played frisbee golf on my inlaws' land and I even drove a golf cart like a pro. My brother kindly reminded me that driving a golf cart isn't really "country," but there were no four-wheelers in sight, so that's as close to county as I was getting! You can see it all on Instagram!

Seven for Seven

As I finished my first 30 for 30, I thought to myself, "Aaah, this feels nice. I have no desire to get dressed and I don't have to!" So, I spent two whole days in my gym shorts, swimsuit and grubby clothes. Then I took a trip to New Orleans for my sister's shower.  Just before I began packing, I was reading one of my favorite style blogs and noticed that she was hosting a 7 for 7 link up.  Say what?  Make 7 different outfits out of 7 different pieces of clothing?  I mean, I know I just finished something similar, but this was the perfect solution to my packing dilemma!

 photo IMG_3689_zps59d10e5d.jpg
coral shorts, black maxi skirt, coral hi-low skirt, striped shirt, turquoise shirt, red striped tank, bird print shirt

So, I threw these pieces into my bag, along with several pairs of shoes, lots of jewelry, and two tank tops, and called it finished.

These are my outfits in the order I wore them.

Outfit Number One: Coral Shorts & Striped Shirt
Worn while Cooking & Doing Crafty Stuff for the Shower (Friday)
 photo IMG_3547_zps7cba4e25.jpg
Shorts: Target (Yeah, I'm stuck on these coral shorts.)
Top: Liz Claiborne (Thrifted)

The Little Miss is wearing a romper and leopard print ballet flats from Target, as well. I don't know how we'd manage to get dressed without Target.

 photo IMG_3548_zps9783e7db.jpg
Shoes: Target (Old)

My shoes were hidden in the grass, so I wanted to give you a close-up. =)

Outfit Number Two: Coral Shorts & Bird Print Shirt
Worn to Target & Baskin Robbins (Saturday)

Bird Print Shirt: H&M (Thrifted)

 photo IMG_3661_zpsf593a117.jpg
Rings: Target

Stacked Bracelets: Gift
Nail Polish: Maybelline Color Show, Polka Dots

Outfit Number Seven: Black Maxi Skirt & Turquoise Shirt
Worn to Church (Wednesday Night)

Wedges: Zulily

 photo IMG_3688_zpsf61aff07.jpg
Belt: maurices
Bracelets: Gift, Premier Designs Jewelry, Bealls
Turquoise Ring: Ellis and Wiles

I think we can safely say that coral and turquoise dominated this challenge. The coral skirt, coral shorts, the turquoise top... During this challenge, it felt a bit like I was wearing the same thing over and over again.  To keep my outfits feeling fresh, I rotated between gold and silver jewelry.  But that only helped a little bit.  If I were to do something like this again, I think I'd include seven very different pieces, so that I felt like I was wearing very different outfits every time I got dressed.

Church Style: Red Stripes, Black Maxi & A Dash of Neon

Happy Sunday!

I'm in New Orleans spending some QT with my very pregnant sister, so this will be short and sweet.

The cute toddler in the background with the messy hair was supposed to be napping... we see how well that worked out.

My sister currently lives in Ohio and almost didn't make it in town for her shower because of delayed flights. *sigh* But she made it and the shower was a success! Photos are on Instagram at the moment, but I'll do a special post later highlighting the various DIY's that I attempted and to show the amazing candy bar that my sis-in-law set up.

Summer (Mom) Style: Sneakers & Shorts

Outfit Number 26 and it's more of the same... That's right. It's another look in my mom uniform of sneakers and shorts.

 photo IMG_3451_zpsd9da03d6.jpg
Shirt: Thrifted
Shorts: Gap Outlet
Shoes: TJMaxx
Socks: Target

This morning, my little princess slept till 8:30. Let me tell you, she should have! Last night, she was up until about 9:30 (2 hours past her bedtime), with excuse after excuse for getting out of bed. Well, I can't stand to hear her crying, "My mommy! My mommy!" for longer than 5 or so minutes before I crack. Yeah, I know. I'm quite the pushover. So, I went into her room, held her hand for a while, sang her a few songs, even rocked her for a bit.

So, this morning when she woke up, she smiled up at me and said, "I fell aseep, momma!" Like she had dome something that I would be so proud of. I said, "That's great, baby. Momma prayed and prayed last night that you'd fall asleep."

 photo IMG_3448_zps397f375c.jpg

Then she said, "Yeah! And Jesus hold my hand and wocked me till I fell aseep" And because I wasn't going to contradict her, I said, "Yeah, he did."

Then she thought about it for a second and said, "Momma, you Jesus?"

 photo IMG_3449_zps98c7e009.jpg

Well, even though I hope to portray Jesus to those around me, I most certainly am not Him. =)

Avi says... (& a Winner!)

I yike motuh-cycles, mama. I want a motuh-cycle at my buthday powty.  She's also said that she wants a pink and purple boat and a yellow butterfly. Yeah, so I'm not sure exactly what kind of party we're having, but it should be pretty crazy.

Me: Avi, you're my sweet girl, aren't you?
Avi:  No! I not a baby. I a pincess.

Whenever we're both wearing tennis shoes, or skirts or dresses, or flats, she lets a big huge gasp and says, "You! Me! Shoes! (or skirt or dress!) We match, mama!"

 photo DSC04633_zpsa273ace2.jpg

Okay, and now it's time to oh so very briefly talk about clothes.  Whenever I'm wearing neutral colors, I just don't feel right unless I add a pop of color. Often I'll add a pop of several colors, but this time I went with one color popping on my toes, and on my wrist and around my neck.

 photo DSC04630_zps07421e2d.jpg

What is your poppin' color? For me, it doesn't absolutely have to be orange. You know me, I'd be happy with any color as long as it pops.

Favorite Things

We're talking today about wrestling.

No, wrestling isn't necessarily one of my favorite things! It is however, important to my husband.  See, my husband's dad and uncle wrestled in the Olympics 40 years ago; the Hubs wrestled all throughout high school and college; and his cousin is wrestling Friday in the Olympics!

Team Haze Shirt:
Jean Shorts: American Eagle

So, since the Hubs is one of my favorite things and wrestling is one of his favorite things, I'm adopting it this week. ;)

So, check out this shirt! It was originally a regular t-shirt, but I couldn't imagine wearing anything with sleeves right now since it's so bloody hot out.  So, I took a pair of scissors to it and made it more my style. =)

I paired it with my plaid Ralph Lauren tennies from TJMaxx and my bright blue sports bra to infuse even more "Tiffany" into this t-shirt. I felt pretty cool in this and it was the perfect outfit for cleaning, organizing and decorating my classroom!

If you've been watching the Olympics, tune in Friday morning at 7:00 am central time to cheer for Sam! You can watch him online at www.nbcolympics.com.

Style Me Chic - Pretty Pleats

I finally have myself one of those swishy pleated skirts I've been seeing all over the place!

Shirt: Loft, Thrifted
Skirt: c/o Oasap (similar; cute option)

This skirt is perfect!! It's light and swishy and I adore the rich color. I should have attempted a twirl for you because it is the perfect twirly skirt!

Instead, I stuck with my tried and true blogger poses. =)

Shoes: Nine West, TJMaxx

I got these shoes on sale last fall and I still love them!

Multi-colored Stacking Ring & Silver Bracelet: Premier Design Jewelry
Watch, Big Silver Ring & Necklace: Target
Belt: TJMaxx

When I first received this skirt, I was unsure how to style it. It has an elastic waist, so if I'm going to tuck in a shirt, then I think it looks best belted... So, here's my question for you! Give me some ideas. How else would you style this skirt?

**This is a sponsored post. I received a skirt from Oasap to style, but all opinions are totally honest and 100% mine!

OTI - Erica's Pick

I'm participating in Open to Interpretation this week! OTI is a fun little event that Kayla dreamed up where she and a few other bloggers choose a picture from around the interwebs and use it to inspire their own looks.  Today's look was chosen by Erica .

You can hop over to Erica's blog to see the look she chose and to see how other bloggers around the world are making it their own!

Shirt: Thrifted
Tennies: TJMaxx
Neon Jeans: NY&Co

I'm not  very creative, I guess. I basically just copied the look exactly, with the exception of a hat.  In my Little Guy's own words, "Momma, you look like a boy when you wear a hat!" So, no hats for me. =)

Belt, Bracelets, Necklace & Ring: Take a guess.... Target! ;)

One thing that this event did challenge me to do is wear some cute tennis shoes! I have a few pair that simply never get any use.  I felt very much like a tomboy all day. =)

Do you use photos you see around the internet or in fashion magazines to inspire your own looks?

I'm also participating this week in the Trends Fashion Challenge hosted by Keely and Megan. Today's prompt was to wear solid brights or bold print.  Obviously, I went with the solid brights. =)

Color Me Skinny

Ha, don't you wish it were that easy?  You wake up in the morning with a bit too much pinchable chub around the middle, look in the mirror and say, "Color me skinny!" And voila, you're a bit thinner than you were before. ;)

Nope, it doesn't quite work that way, as nice as it would be. Instead, we have to forego all of the deliciousness that I personally LOVE... chocolate, potato chips, cookies, chocolate, cheesy quesadillas, did I mention chocolate? Yep, and then after all of that self-deprivation, you also have to fit in hours of running, crunches, lunges, etc., each week.  At least that's how it works once you hit 30. ;)

One thing that does instantly transform these legs of mine into fun candy-colored stems, however, are my brightly colored skinny jeans! Even if they don't make me appear any thinner, they do make me feel good about how I look.  And THAT is where you get my catchy title. ;)

Shirt w/ cardi attached: Bealls ($10)
Skinny Jeans: NY&Co ($30)
Shoes: Nine West, TJMaxx ($15)
Necklace: Charming Charlie's (Gift)
Arm Candy: Various Stores that I regularly frequent like Target, Bealls, Maurices...

There's just something about these turquoise skinny jeans that makes me happy.

Speaking of turquoise, yesterday, I did an experiment with my third graders.  We were testing how light filters through different materials and the way the color changes.  According to one of my bright students, when the blue and green lights blend, we get turquoise!  To me, it looked like a light blue, but hey, maybe turquoise is her happy color too, so I'm not faulting her for saying that it looks turquoise.  In fact, I was actually quite proud of her for coming up with a more descriptive word that "light blue." =)

I tried various poses today to show of my little arm party...
They look more ridiculous than creative. ;)

Do you have a trick for instantly feeling a little bit thinner? Maybe "thinner" isn't the best word... but you know what I mean. Do you have something you wear or do that instantly makes you feel a little bit more confident? Or something that cheers you up when you put it on?

Linking up today with the lovely ladies behind Monday Mingle!
