Sunday Style: Mama Needs Lipstick

Well, hey there.

I know, I know, it's been . . . a year?? Already?? Wow.

I know, you're just dying to know where I've been all this time, am I right? Well, I had a baby. Yep, surprise, surprise, I was pregnant. That's what that huge bump was under my shirt. So, yeah, I had a baby, took off and became engrossed in my new business, started boot camp. My word, y'all. Boot camp is intense and so totally worth EVERY single aching muscle. Oh! And I'm a Stay-At-Home Mom now... and loving it! Is my house clean all the time like I thought it would be? Nope. It turns out you actually have to enjoy cleaning for that to happen. Ha, that's not me!

Anyways, my friend and I decided to start a fun Fashion Friday segment for our businesses. She is in the jewelry business and I'm in the pretty nail business... I mean, they go hand in hand! <<pun totally intended>>  So, we made this video last week and that's when it hit me. Ah, the fun and friendly world of blogging... I miss it!

So, while we were out shopping for our Floral Invasion, I picked up this pretty number at Target on the clearance rack for a mere $6!! Wha-what???

 photo IMG_9715_zpsiyjqlmp3.jpg
Dress: Target ($6)
Cardigan: Target ($6)
Shoes: Madden Girl
Jewelry: Premier

Check out the jams that would go oh, so perfectly with this outfit that combined two top trends of 2015 - both floral and marsala!! Sweet!

 photo marsala_zpscb3rhcon.jpg

Okay, so y'all stay posted! New things are coming to the blog and they're going to be big. I'm talking huge. Like of epic proportions. Yep, you'll definitely want to stick around. =)

While we're talking about all things Marsala, which of those jams is your favorite up there? The chevron, the faded polka, the floral or the stripe? I'm loving the bold stripe!

Preggo Style: Stretching Your Wardrobe

A lovely lady commented on my last post and made me realize... this is what I should have said.

Moms, we all have HUGE, major, big deal jobs taking care of our kids. Raising them to the best of our abilities. Taking care of the little things like runny noses and scraped knees and taking care of the big things like surgeries and first days of school.

Not only is our job as a mom a big deal. It can be tough.  It's hard to be sleep deprived, whether you stay home with the kids or not. It's hard being pleasant with whiny children, whether you stay home with them or come home to them after a day at work.  It's hard work, raising these children.

We're all doing our very best for our children, day in and day out.  And yes, it is incredibly rewarding to feel their little arms wrap around our necks. It's incredibly rewarding to hear them whisper, "I love you so much, momma." It's incredibly rewarding to feel so much love towards those little people that your heart feels like it could burst.

But it's tough. No matter what your job is, no matter what your title is.  It's a tough job being a mom. It's a busy job being a mom.  It's exhausting being a mom.

And without a doubt, we all rock.

That's what I should have said.

Dress: Merona - Target
Boots: Shoedazzle
Blazer: maurices

And now I'll tell you how you can stretch your wardrobe to fit your growing bump. Basically, it's a simple formula.

Stretchy dresses + blazers or cardigans = regular clothes that work on the preggo body.

26 weeks and 3 days... not that I'm counting.

I am loving my Jamberry nail wraps! They last on your fingers for at least two weeks, but I've been changing them out every 7 to 10 days because I want a new look. They're just so much fun! Have you heard of them?!?

Pink Blush Maternity Review & Giveaway

Have you heard of the clothing company Pink Blush Maternity?  They are an online boutique that offers ladies like us trendy maternity clothes!  They recently sent me this maxi skirt to review.

I fell. I fell hard. I fell so in love.

25 Weeks, 3 Days (But who's counting?!?)
 photo IMG_5850_zpsbfc5b764.jpg
Tank: Target
Denim Jacket: Thrifted
Maxi Skirt: c/o Pink Blush Maternity
Wedges: Kohls

The fabric is incredibly soft and the fit is perfect. It has a nice stretchy waistband that can be worn below your growing belly (if you're tall enough) or above your belly, like I wore it (because I'm a shorty).

It's finally starting to warm up in Florida (don't hate me!) and I can see myself wearing this all spring and even throughout the summer, after Daisy arrives.

Today, I went nautical by pairing the bright coral stripes with a blue tank and denim jacket. Then I added these nautical nails with tiny orange anchors on them, which I'll tell you more about this week!

 photo IMG_5856_zps1002f293.jpg

I can see myself wearing this skirt with so many different ways... With turquoise, with the Pantone color of the season, radiant orchid, and most definitely with some cute sandals and wedges as soon as it's warm enough!

How would you like to do a little shopping for maternity clothes yourself?? Pink Blush Maternity is offering one of you a $25 gift card to their site!!  Use the rafflecopter entry form below to enter. =)

Preggo Style: That One Sunny Day

Well, we had one beautiful day sandwiched between the gray, gloomy cold days last week. I decided to make the most of it and wore a bright tee and a maxi skirt. All I was missing was a pretty pair of sandals and I'd have been ready for summer. However, my toes weren't even a little bit ready, so closed-toe flats were the way to go.

Now, if my Jamberry Nail Wraps had already arrived, I can promise you my toes would be in tip-top shape.

Preggo Style: Belt It

Look who's back! (For the moment, at least…)

 photo IMG_5514_zps8b939a27.jpg
Sweater: Thrifted
Shirt: maurices (right now they have an extra 75% off sale!)
Skirt: Gift (Maternity)
Belt, Boots & Socks: Target

It's been a few weeks, I know. But I was busy with the holidays and traveling to Alabama and back to Florida and then to New Orleans. Then school started back up and I've been trying to continue training for a 15k in sub-freezing temperatures. That's probably been the toughest part of all of this!

 photo IMG_5510_zps277f360a.jpg

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I had big plans to run a 10k Saturday morning. Well, it was really windy and rainy. It wasn't incredibly cold, but it was cold enough with the rain to give a person a chill. I chose not to run (Ha! Anyone notice the slight Seinfeld reference there?) because I didn't want to risk wearing myself out in the rain and potentially catching something.  I've heard of so many heartbreaking scenarios where healthy people are catching this vicious flu and actually dying. I mean, young, healthy people! It's crazy and I'm terrified of getting it. Being a teacher, I'm in constant contact with all kinds of germy-ness. I'm hoping that a healthy diet (minus the almost daily occasional sugary treat), combined with exercise, my prenatals and an immune booster that I got from the health food store will keep me healthy until D-Day . . . which is exactly 20 weeks away, folks!

 photo IMG_5511_zps7a2e6f65.jpg

That's right, I'm halfway there!

Okay and now that I'm finished with my rambling, let's talk preggo style. I like to emphasize the growing bump with belts. I sometimes wear them under the bump, but more often than not, I wear skinny belts over the bump. I feel like it clarifies to the masses that I am, in fact, truly pregnant and not just growing in the abdominal region. I also like to wear skinny jeans/pants or leggings, as opposed to any other type of jean/pants. Here's why: I'm short. And even though my legs are not the skinny things they were this summer when I was getting ready for my itty bitty super sprint big triathlon, any other cut of jeans than skinny just makes me appear kind of squat. Especially when my belly is getting bigger by the moment and my boobs just won't stop growing.

So, the big question is, how do you dress your bump? Or you know, back in the day, how did you like to style your baby bump?

I'm linking up today with everyone because I probably won't get to post again until next weekend when I'm not teaching and I have a bit of brain power left over at the end of the day. You can find me and many, many others at Watch What I'm Wearing, Monday Mingle, Still Being Molly, The Pleated Poppy, I Feel Pretty, Mix & Match Fashion, Three-fer Thursday and Passion for Fashion.

Missy Missy Says So

Whenever this little miss is being bossy, I call her Missy Missy. Well, that's kind of a lot.  Missy Missy is going to be a great big sister. I mean, great in such a way that she is going to loooovvve bossing her little sister around someday.

Christmas Comes But Once A Year

Or three times a year, if you're part of our family.

We celebrated Christmas at our house on the 23rd. Then we made a quick little drive (that should have taken 3 hours, but took 4 1/2 because of an insane stop at Walmart to pick up the ingredients for s'mores) to Alabama. I mean, because you can't go the backwoods of Alabama when it's going to be cold without planning to make s'mores to go with your fire. But really, who in their right mind ventures into Walmart on Christmas Eve?? Apparently, everyone in the city of Selma.

That evening was filled with pizza making, Christmas candy eating and present opening… because that's how my husband's family does Christmas. One of the fun things about getting married (I mean, really, there are a lot) is that you get to experience the traditions of your spouse.  Today, has been incredibly laid back day. All of the gifts were opened last night, so today has been made up of playing board games, skipping rocks on the lake, and simply spending time together as a family.  A little while later, we'll all gather into the kitchen to make egg rolls because that's what his family eats on Christmas day.

So, that explains why I'm blogging on Christmas day. A day that should be jam packed full of family stuff. Well, it's quiet and relaxed and . . . I have time for this. So here I am.

But that only takes us to Christmas Number Two. In a few days, we'll venture over to the land of gumbo, crawfish and beignets. That's right. Our third Christmas takes place in New Orleans with my family.  I'm looking forward to walking through Christmas in the Oaks and going for beignets at Cafe du Monde. I think that is one of my favorite family Christmas traditions.

Okay, now on to a little Christmas fashion.

Here's what I wore on our first Christmas and second Christmas (with the addition of a snug puffy vest), and what I'll probably wear on our third Christmas too. =)

Only in Florida . . .

Only in Florida, do you get to wear a tank top in December one day . . .

 photo IMG_5086_zps026b383e.jpg

Tank: Old Navy
Chambray Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Target
Shoes: Gift

And a sweater layered over a long sleeved shirt the next.

 photo IMG_4975_zps776c1113.jpg

Shirt: Old Navy
Sweater: Target
Jeans: NY&Co
Boots: Shoedazzle

Okay, if I'm begin honest, I didn't actually wear these two outfits on consecutive days. But I very well could have! On Friday, it was 75 degrees. On Saturday, it was 46. Don't get me wrong, I love love LOVE the cold weather in December. I just don't like the crazy weather changes! That's how this preggo ends up sick.

And because she said so, you get this.  I mean, when she says to do it, I do it. Because she's that cool. ;)

Making: plans for a fabulous Holidays Around the World segment with my third graders
Cooking : (in just a minute) fried eggs, sausage and toast . . . because big breakfasts on Sunday mornings make me happy.
Drinking : white chocolate macadamia creamer, with a little bit of coffee
Reading : Christmas books with the kidlets by the Christmas tree. I mean, not literally right this second, but that's what we've been reading lately.
Wanting : to pair my new red skinny jeans with a black & white striped shirt and my new white puffy vest. Yes, I did a little shopping. =/
Looking: forward to next weekend. The kids will be with my parents for the weekend and I get two solid days of . . . silence!
Playing: Mousetrap. My Little Guy loves it.
Wasting: time on Facebook. I think I have a problem.
Sewing: nada. This momma can't sew. =/
Wishing: that I could sew. There are entirely too many "easy" projects on pinterest.
Enjoying: sleepy cuddles on the couch this morning, while the kids watch Curious George
Waiting: for my new red skinny jeans to arrive.
Liking: my third grade class so very much this year.
Wondering: how long this quiet, peaceful cuddle time will last
Loving: that my kids are currently not fighting. They've been quite the little bickerers lately.
Hoping: that maybe, just maybe, we'll get snow in Florida this year
Marveling: that at 14 weeks, I could tell baby Daisy already looks like her big sister
Needing: to go for a run, but I'll put it off to tomorrow
Smelling: my delicious creamer coffee
Wearing: jammies (I love lazy mornings.)
Following: lots of pincers that are doing all kinds of amazing Christmas crafts and feeling a little inadequate that we've yet to do a one.  But I did buy an adorable Ninjabread kit from World Market yesterday. Little Guy will love those!
Noticing: that the kids are starting to get restless.
Knowing: that I better get moving before they get to bickering.
Thinking: about the massive, unhealthy breakfast that I'm about to consume.
Feeling: 30 weeks pregnant which bodes really well for the next 25 … Grace couldn't have said it better.
Bookmarking: slowcooker soup recipes… because homemade soup is the best on a cold night.
Opening: a box of chocolate covered cherries. I know it's only 7:30 am, but I'm obsessed with these little gobs of deliciousness.
Giggling: at the faces Avi is making because Gabe currently won't stop watching George and walk her into her bedroom to get her blanket off of her bed. I mean, her room is literally 15 feet from the couch, yet she is unable to get their by herself.
Feeling: perfectly content. Favorite day of the week, during my favorite time of year, with my favorite people in the world. Yep, life is good.

You should do this too. It's fun and it wastes all kinds of time. =)

Finally, here's a great 14 week belly shot for you. Seriously, tell me that belly doesn't look about 25 weeks pregnant!

Happy Thanksgiving! (With a dose of family fashion)

Happy Thanksgiving from my clan!!

 photo IMG_5006_zpsdb1d5335.jpg

This post is for those of you who are like me. You're finally sitting down after a busy day and you're relaxing a bit, browsing the internets while your kids build a fire outside. Wait, my kids aren't building the fire. The husband is while the kids play. Then we're all going to make s'mores. No better day to wrap up this thankful day, right?

 photo IMG_5007_zps7be131c1.jpg

It's fuh-reezing in Florida. Literally. It was 25 degrees this morning when I went running. So, the only thing we know to do is put on the layers. Which is why each and every family member is wearing a sweater and a shirt. But that seems like a reasonable thing to do when you're attempting to bundle up and still maintain a bit of style.

 photo IMG_5015_zps74ce4f0e.jpg

Shirt: American Eagle (Husband's)
Sweater & Leggings: Target
Boots: Shoedazzle
Belt: Aldo
Necklace: Rue 21

My key to a successful Thanksgiving? Leggings.  Yep, that band that just keeps on stretching as I eat is the way to go. Oh, and my husband's giant shirt. Trust me, this little belt you see here? It lasted about 30 minutes. Then I took it off and let the food fill my belly. I think baby was pretty happy with that.

 photo IMG_5016_zps473940e1.jpg

Speaking of baby… there she is. Or he. I haven't a clue what this one is.  You know how some moms have an idea? I never do. I just feel pregnant.

I Get Dressed

I do. Every. Single. Day.  I mean, I do have a job outside of the home otherwise I'd be sorely tempted to wear pajama pants and tank tops until I actually fit into maternity clothes. Currently, my real jeans and skirts aren't buttoning very well. I've had to go back up into the few bigger sizes that I have left in my closet.  Leggings are a growing girl's best friend! But you know the problem I have with leggings...  And don't get me started on dresses. I've always loved a good dress, whether it's a sundress or a pretty little dress I can wear with tights and boots. I love a dress. Well, when you're pregnant, dresses tend to hang over your blossoming belly and make everything from there down look just as big as your belly. It really doesn't help when you're well endowed in the upper body area. Yeah, so while getting dressed has been a challenge, I've embraced welcomed adjusted to it and I'm trying to continue to be my cute little ole self.

Here are a few of the ways I've gotten dressed over the past few weeks.

I tried my hand at mixing plaid and leopard print, in a very subtle way, to church a few weeks ago.

 photo IMG_4884_zpsbcd8a443.jpg

Shirt: Kohls
Skirt: Old Navy
Socks: Aldo
Booties: JCPenney

 photo IMG_4886_zps20bf8777.jpg

Necklaces: Target & Poshlocket

I also mixed stripes and leopard print, to work one day last week.

 photo IMG_4889_zps1f9a9d4c.jpg

Tunic: Kohls
Leggings: Target
Socks & Belt: Aldo

 photo IMG_4888_zpse2a66d5d.jpg

Then I asked for your advice and didn't follow it last Sunday when I wore this little number.

 photo IMG_4910_zps8478bdf5.jpg

Dress: Old Navy
Jacket: Thrifted
Belt: Kohls

And because you've got to see my almost 13-week (Yay, 2nd trimester!) belly.

 photo IMG_4915_zpsc6fcb0bd.jpg

Then the temps dropped and I needed to bundle up, so I did follow your advice the following day when I wore the exact same thing to work.

 photo IMG_4920_zpsdedbfc55.jpg

Scarf: Gift

See?

So, now, all I've done is proven to you that I've gotten dressed four times over the last two weeks and twice was for church. =)

That's better than not getting dressed (or documenting it) at all, right?

Excitement is in the air...

Or at least around me and any other newish teacher, it is. It's that time of year when we start spending more time in our classrooms and start getting all kinds of excited about the upcoming school year! Or, if you wish summer lasted just a bit longer, then I guess it's that time of year when you are trying to deny that school starts in a few weeks and the only thing in the air around you is the sound of your sobs as you come to grips with the end of summer.

Okay, all that being said to say that I've been spending the week in my classroom . . . with my kids. And you know what? They've actually been quite the little helpers. Yep, they've distributed textbooks, held open doors and just generally entertained anyone who was in a 300-yard radius of their lovely voices.  And my classroom is shaping up, if I must say so myself.

Thanks to Third Grade Thoughts, I have a behavior management plan that I think will be successful, 7 habits of happy kids that I plan to implement on Day One, some excellent classroom rules, formative assessment bookmarks... Yeah, pretty much, this teacher and her cute blog are going to make me successful this year. ;)

Now while I've been busy hanging up posters, printing signs, distributing textbooks and organizing my classroom... this is what I wore. Or something similar. No fancy pants going on over here these days...

Jean Bermuda Shorts: Target (Ooooold)
Shirt: maurices (Newish)
Sneakers: TJMaxx (Oldish)

When my hair starts to get to this length, I think it looks so much better at an angle. Maybe I should just walk around looking down at my feet until it grows enough that I can cut it like this.

Cute mismatched socks: Target

I have to spend a bit more time at the school tomorrow morning, but I plan to spend the entire afternoon and all day on Friday simply enjoying my last few days of summer break. While I'm incredibly excited to begin my second year teaching, I also want to soak up these special days with my babies!

Making Plans

At church this morning, we heard a message about planning. Not just planning, as in plan ahead. But planning, as in make sure that your plans include God.

I'm a big planner. I like to know what's coming and prepare for it. Whether it's training for a race, planning lessons for school, or planning every minute of vacation, I like to know what's headed my way. The Lord reminded me this morning that I need to be more aware of Him when I'm planning. I'm not guaranteed tomorrow.  For many, this might make the future uncertain.  But for me, it just means that my well laid plans might change. Instead of running a race or teaching third graders how to multiply, I may be in Heaven. And that's perfectly okay.

The Lord also reminded me to enjoy each minute of my day.  Okay, I literally can't enjoy each and every minute. I mean, when my kids are clamoring around me and begging for my attention at the end of the day and I simply have no more attention to give?  Yeah, it's tough to enjoy that moment. But I can take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I'm not guaranteed a million tomorrows with the munchkins. So when I remember that, it makes it just a tiny bit easier to breathe through those unenjoyable moments.

Anyway, deep thoughts for this beautiful Sunday, eh?

Getting back to what this little blog is all about... here's what I wore today.

 photo IMG_4150_zpscdfd39a8.jpg
Dress, Heels & Belt: Target
Blazer: Kohls

I saw this little blazer at Kohls yesterday when I was back to school shopping for the kids (and myself, obviously) and I had to have it. I mean, it was on the clearance rack and I got an additional 20% off. So, I got this little beauty for $8!

 photo IMG_4149_zpsf51b115b.jpg

There are so many possibilities with this blazer, but the obvious pairing was a classic black sheath dress.

 photo IMG_4151_zps26355a6e.jpg
Necklace: I won it in a giveaway at Casual Chic Kiki, but I can't remember the shop...

Patterns Abound

Hey, do you see what's happened here?  It seems that I've fallen right back into my "mom uniform." T-shirt and shorts just do it for me during the summer. At least, I'm keeping it visually stimulating with my multiple patterns. I'm going minimal on the jewelry these days because I've been working in my classroom and setting up for the new school year!

 photo IMG_4096_zps82ee9e1e.jpg
T-shirt & Shoes: Target
Shorts: maurices

This morning, as I was stepping into the shower, my Little Miss and I had this conversation.

Little Miss: I gotta go, momma. Gimme kiss.
Me: Muah! Where are you going?
Little Miss: Towget... Bye!
Me: What are you going to buy at Target?
Little Miss: Ummm... dog food... <pause> And I'm not gonna tell you what else.

I swear that I haven't been teaching her that out Target purchases are secret purchases!  Honestly, I haven't!

Myyyy Fedora!

In my head, I'm kind of singing that to the tune of Myyyy Sharona. Only don't go google that song because I did and then was a little bit disturbed by the lyrics. =/

I styled the heck out of my fedora this weekend. I don't really have the perfect hat head, but I'm going for it. You know how you see girls with tiny little pixie faces wearing gorgeous floppy hats or cute little fedoras and they just look amazing? That's not me. But I'm okay with that. =)

Excuse the wrinkles... the photos were taken after 4 very long hours in the car!

Saturday night, we celebrated my husband's parents' 40th anniversary. Forty years is a long time, especially these days when it seems like couples young and old are getting divorces left and right. Nate's parents are such a great example of what a loving, godly couple should be. They have a strong marriage and have successfully raised three great children (one of them is really great and he's all mine!). We celebrated with them by going out to dinner at a cute little 50's style diner.

I decided to denim it up by wearing not only a pair of cut-off shorts, but also a denim shirt. Mixing denims is cool now, don't ya know?

We had a great time in Alabama! My Little Guy caught his first fish, we met a few Egyptian Arabian show horses, played frisbee golf on my inlaws' land and I even drove a golf cart like a pro. My brother kindly reminded me that driving a golf cart isn't really "country," but there were no four-wheelers in sight, so that's as close to county as I was getting! You can see it all on Instagram!

I'm linking up today with Let the Light Shine, Funday Monday, Peacoats and Plaid, Plane Pretty, Monday Bloom and Monday Mingle.
